What is the COPS School Violence Prevention Program (SVPP)?

The School Violence Prevention Program (SVPP) is administered by the U.S. Department of Justice COPS Office. The program provides funding to improve security at schools and on school grounds through coordinated safety planning and technology deployment.

SVPP supports initiatives including:

  • Coordination with local law enforcement

  • Training to prevent school violence

  • Security deterrent measures such as locks, lighting, and metal detectors

  • Acquisition and installation of technology for expedited notification of local law enforcement during an emergency
